    AM14U5 - 6 Wheel Drop Center Robot Drive Base - FIRST Kit of Parts Chassis

    A large format, infinitely configurable drive platform is designed and built with performance in mind. You are getting a drive chassis that has three main configurations (Long, Square & Wide) as starting options. The drop center wheel allows for smoother turning ability, while maintaining stability.


    Perfect for prototyping robotic applications as well as being part of the final design!


    The 5th major upgrade to this chassis with many more minor revisions. Our AM14U family of products have built upon the lessons learned since the first AM14U was designed in 2013.  And it was a major upgrade to the C-base chassis that was part of the FIRST Kit of Parts since 2009.

    This product ships as an un-assembled kit. It features HiGrip Wheels, Toughbox Mini Gearboxes, and Gates HTD Belts.

    Assembly and cutting of aluminum is required. See the Assembly Videos below.


    If this chassis is being used for the FIRST Robotics Competition, please consider the robot perimeter rules and size this chassis accordingly. The manual helps clearly show where to make cuts for different sizes, you can adapt your cuts to fit as needed.

    Various Frame Size Configurations:


    Built on the same great features of previous AM14U family chassis, this can be configured into many different perimeter, wheel, and gearbox configurations. There are literally thousands of possible playing configurations.


    • Smallest Frame size: 24.3 in. x 27 in.
    • Largest Frame size: 32.3 in. x 31 in.


    It is shipped as a Kit with plates that can build in a large square configuration. This makes it the largest possible size and allows for the user to trim the length and width of the chassis to become a long, wide, or a smaller square to fit different the size constraints of each specific year. The assembly instructions show how it can be changed, be sure to check out the assembly videos as well.

    Encoder Options:


    The AM14U5 does not include encoders. The Toughbox Mini gearboxes included in the AM14U5 ship with an output shaft (am-2566b) that has two holes in the end for optional included 1/4" diameter steel dowels (am-1323) that are compatible with the US Digital E4T Encoder (am-3132) and the REV Through Bore Encoder (am-4650). Teams also have the option of purchasing a magnetic dowel (am-3505) to replace the steel dowel allowing the use of the SRX Magnetic Encoder (am-3445). In order to use this encoder on the Toughbox Mini, our SRX Magnetic Encoder Mounting Hardware Kit (am-3565) must also be used to mount each encoder.

    Control Options:

    To control this drive, you will need a power and control system like the Electronic Bundles kit, robo-RIO, Spark Max, 4 CIM motors, and PDP (BCRX4CP). Many options are available!

    The chassis requires a minimum of two CIM style motors (am-0255), but we recommend four CIMs to be competitive in situations like heavy robots, high traction, and pushing match situations that put a lot of load on the motors. You will also need at least one battery. We recommend the 2 Pack of Interstate Batteries (am-3062), and the 3 Bank 6 Amp Dual Pro RS3 Charger (am-2026). There are many options available here as well, take your pick!

    500 Hex Hub. This hub fits all AndyMark wheels. 

    The bolt pattern is designated as 6 holes evenly spaced on a 1.875" diameter bolt circle. The hex broach is consistently cut to be aligned with the holes.

    2" Compliant Wheel, 1/2 inch Hex, 35 Durometer Green

    Compliant wheels are not intended for moving robots, but moving objects. Compliant wheels give way to allow rigid objects to be manipulated easily. A line of multiple wheels on a driven hex shaft creates a very effective roller that ignores variations in the objects being driven. This makes for high-performance intakes and internal conveyors. The wheels are sized for an interference fit and tend to stay in place on a shaft, though a shaft collar may be used to make absolutely sure the wheels stay clear of other mechanisms or maintain consistent spacing.


    The hex bore versions of this wheel are undersized, and are intended to be an interference fit on their respective hex shafts. This interference fit allows for effective torque transfer from the hex shaft to the wheel, as well as allowing the wheel to remain in place along the shaft without the need for spacers or collar clamps:


    Compliant Wheel Sizing


    Different durometer ratings give each wheel unique characteristics. Green wheels (35A durometer) are the softest and most compliant around objects, while orange (40A), maroon (45A), and blue (50A) wheels are increasingly firm. The increased firmness also allows the latter wheels to carry a higher RPM rating. Check out the downloads tab for a chart showing wheels and their maximum RPM.

    0.375 in. ID 0.5 in. OD Aluminum Spacer at Various Lengths (1.1875 in)


    This spacer is designed to fit on a shaft or screw that is 0.375 in. in diameter. Spacers help keep things in place in a multitude of ways. You can use this to slip over a shaft that is smaller than the inside diameter, between objects where it gets smashed between them with other fasteners, or help center a shaft of smaller size into a larger hole. Not seeing the length you're looking for? Consider stacking several together.

    Entrapption Star .5 Inch Hex Shaft

    Our Entrapption Stars have two bore options, making them viable parts for both FRC and FTC! This product is frequently used as intake wheels for picking up game pieces. Made from silicone, they are flexible, yet firm, allowing for the ability to pick up objects of irregular shape.

    The 1/2 in. Hex Bore option is designed to be an interference fit on any 0.5 in. Hex Shaft.  This means the bore is actually 0.425 in. and it will be a tight press on, but keep the entrapption star from rotating.

    Collar Clamp, 1/2 Hex Bore, 2 Pc with Flats

    This novel style of collar clamp is split into two pieces so that it can be attached without removing any shafts. The bore is a 1/2" hex. The flats on the perimeter allow for the collar clamp to be held in position or turned for better assembly control.

    Talon SRX / Spark Max - 10 Pin Data Cable

    This 6 in. long cable is designed specifically for the 2x5 pin data port on the Talon SRX to provide external inputs. It can be used to connect the Talon SRX to feedback devices such as potentiometers, limit switches, analog & quadrature encoders as well as providing other future expansions options beyond what is currently supported.
