Being twisted is a good thing for this activity! Students build a racer from laser-cut parts and then use the power in a twisted rubber band motor to run the propeller, making the car speed off! This is a great way to start teaching torsion and potential energy.
Looking for standards-based activities to accompany these materials? The Prop Racers Teacher’s Guide is available for print here, or you can download a digital copy for free here.

Students place electronic components and learn soldering skills with this hands-on circuit board kit. By placing a variety of components – transistors, capacitors, LEDs, and resistors – and soldering them in a functional circuit, students build a robot board with intermittently flashing LEDs. All components, including the circuit board, are included along with step-by-step instructions.
