Pitsco Dragsters
Metric drag racing is an excellent way to motivate students while they design, construct, and race their own CO2 dragsters. This Getting Started package includes everything you need to launch your students’ program: materials to build and finish 50 student dragsters.
Our illustrated, self-directed student workbook holds the students’ attention as they learn step-by-step automotive-design processes. The CO2 Dragster User Guide is available for print here, or you can download a digital copy for free here.
An inexpensive way to introduce dragsters into your curriculum, this package offers enough materials to build 50 dragsters and the equipment to race them.
Requires a drill, coping saw, wood rasp or file, ruler, scissors, and finish, sold separately.
Quickly set up and race in the classroom with the EZ Track Raceway. The track comes with 20 one-meter high-strength PVC sections that easily slide together with joints that slightly elevate the track off the ground. Use the 20 sections to create a dual-lane setup or one long lane to race down. Race dragsters, mousetrap vehicles, bottle racers, solar cars, and more. When the racing is finished, the track quickly disassembles and can be stacked for storage. Compatible with the EZ Start Raceway, Impulse G3 Race System, and more.
Studica is the exclusive Canadian educational distributor of the safest, most reliable, and most consistent 4-gram and 8-gram CO2 cartridges for launching dragsters. Consistent quality ensures the fairest races. Also, each of these cartridges features a patented safety seal that guards against rupture when exposed to excessive heat. This seal automatically releases excess pressure if the internal pressure rises due to the cartridge being heated or pressurized.
Students use this kit to complete an exciting vehicle design project that culminates in a race competition, much like the Metric Dragster activity. Wide body blanks (3" x 3" x 12") allow for car designs that are closer to production-car proportions.
More emphasis can be placed on car styling and learning the industrial design process than on car performance. The activity can be a follow-up to a clay car design project (clay materials and tools sold separately).
Realistic wheels have removable hubs that can be painted. Kit includes predrilled balsa wood body blank, CO2 cartridge, long axles, four wheels, four brass washers, screw eyes, sandpaper, straw for axle tubes, and instructions. Requires a drill, coping saw, wood file or rasp, finish, and a race system, sold separately.
The most affordable package we offer for starting a CO2 dragster activity, it features the EZ Build Dragster – ideal for schools that don’t have standard power or hand tools and everything you need to race!
Requires a screwdriver and white glue, sold separately.
Get the green light to race CO2 dragsters – even with a budget on the brakes. The Pitsco Education EZ Start Raceway is designed to make dragster activities easy and affordable. It comes with the EZ Start Gate and EZ Finish Gate, floor anchors, monofilament line, track hardware, detectors, and a power adapter. Lining up cars and launching them with the Start Gate is a simple operation, and the Finish Gate indicates the winner with a blinking light. The system works on a floor track or the FasTrak elevated racetrack, sold separately. It is made of durable, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to last for years.
Bring thrill to your classroom or competition with CO2 dragsters! Dragsters are an exciting method to teach the design process. Students design a prototype and then produce an actual CO2-powered dragster and race it!
Kits and packs are available in Fusion, balsa wood, and basswood. All three blanks are officially approved by the Technology Student Association (TSA) for use in CO2 dragster competition!
Storage boxes are included in single kits but are sold separately for 50-packs.
Our illustrated, self-directed student workbook holds the students’ attention as they learn step-by-step automotive-design processes, incorporating both English and Metric measurement. The CO2 Dragster User Guide is available for print here, or you can download a digital copy for free here.
NOTE: This kit is a replacement of the Metric and LSRAV Dragster packs.

This guide continues the process of guiding students not only in designing and building an excellent dragster but also in understanding the science and technology principles that make this happen.
Production and Fine Tuning delves into the importance of carefully aligned axles, quality paint finishes, and more topics that go beyond shaping and basic construction. Some of the principles explored are:
Alignment and drift
Rolling and sliding friction
Aerodynamic drag
Specifications and trade-offs
With Pitsco Education's AP Dragster - Getting Started Package start to help students understand force and motion, potential and kinetic energies, and more with this fun activity. It uses a plastic bottle to create a racer that flies down the track powered by air pressure. These are fun to build, and students can personalize their racer with paint, decals, or other items. Pack includes the kits, launcher, tire pump, and other items needed to lead the activity. Track length is 35' to 40'. Requires small shaping tools such as a coping saw, wood shaver, and sanding stick or sandpaper, sold separately.
This air-powered vehicle kit, perfect for restocking your Getting Started package, includes a balsa wood body blank that students shape, enabling them to apply knowledge of aerodynamics, friction, and other principles. After shaping the dragster, they assemble it and launch it on the AP Dragster Launcher, an air-powered launcher (not included).
No curriculum or equipment included.
Searching for an introduction to racing that delivers the same excitement in the classroom as CO2 dragsters? The AP dragster activity provides a fun and safe racing experience for a fraction of the price.
This racing system is small enough that you can run a race in the classroom or hallway and then easily store the unit. To use the AP Dragster Launcher, just attach an air pump, slide two air-powered vehicles onto the launch tubes, pump to build air pressure, and press the button to simultaneously launch two cars down a 35- to 40-foot track! The launcher comes with a string anchor, which includes a spring-tension feature to maintain even string tension.
Using the AP Dragster Designer Kit, students can create a vehicle based on aerodynamics and other racing principles. Or, use the AP Mini Dragster Kit to demonstrate potential vs kinetic energy, force, motion, and other concepts.
The launcher features a built-in pressure relief system to keep air pressure to fewer than 40 psi. With HDPE construction and a built-in air gauge, the launcher is sturdy, and its dual-pressure tanks provide consistently even launches. Launcher is 16" x 11" x 3" and requires a hand pump or bicycle pump, sold separately. No assembly required.
Pitsco Dragster Paint Stand is perfect for holding your dragster during the painting process. The dragster is suspended by the cartridge hole. Once secured on the stand, the dragster can also be rotated to paint all sides. Special plastic material enables the wet paint to be wiped off the stand.
Dimensions: approximately 8" long x 3-1/2" high
The quick and convenient way to check dragsters for TSA specifications. Use this Pitsco Metric Dragster Go/No Go gauge for measuring minimum and maximum requirements for front and rear wheel widths and diameters; body length, width, and height; and screw eye and axle position.
