Pitsco Clearly Solar Car Kit is more than a build-and-run activity kit. With this solar car, you can change the solar panel angle, try out different gear combinations and switch the two solar panels from series to parallel circuit (or vice versa). These features enable students to test a variety of variables.
Pitsco Eco-Wind Generator Getting Started Package gets students thinking about energy concepts through hands-on activities. The Getting Started package has enough materials for 30 student wind generators, a WinDynamo II for teacher demonstrations or advanced student explorations, and the Eco-Wind Gen video.
Requires a fan (or wind), hobby knife, scissors and cool melt glue, sold separately.
Pitsco H2O Turbine is a great warm-up activity for teaching about renewable energy, Newton’s third law, rotational energy, and other topics – even history. Put this water wheel under a stream of water to light a bulb – students can see the energy generated by hydropower.
Water turbine kit includes laser-cut acrylic pieces, Motor 500, gears, and hardware to construct the 9-3/4" x 3-3/4" x 2-1/4" generator. Requires screwdriver, sold separately, and a flowing water supply such as an indoor or outdoor faucet. Can also be used with a voltmeter, sold separately.
Pitsco Ray Catcher Consumables give you everything needed to build more of the fast and fun solar cars without rebuying the panels. Reuse your Ray Catcher panels without a hassle.
Note: Each car requires a Ray Catcher Solar Panel, sold separately.
Pitsco Ray Catcher Solar Panel is the official solar panel of the Junior Solar Sprint competition. It measures 267 mm x 127 mm x 3 mm (thick), and is built of lightweight, superstrong, high-impact fiberglass laminate. This panel is also weather resistant. It weighs 126 grams and has an output of 2.9 volts at 1.1 amps. Includes 8" color-coded lead wires.
Pitsco Ray Catcher Sprite Deluxe Solar Vehicle provides all the materials needed to build a complete solar car for the Junior Solar Sprint competition. The kit contains the required solar panel and electric motor plus two 10-1/2" x 4" balsa wood sheets, four nylon spacers, two alligator clips, two 5-1/2" axles, four wheels, four rubber bands, one plastic gear font, two screw eyes and instructions.
Construction requires soldering iron and solder, hobby knife, cool-melt glue gun and glue, needle-nose pliers, and a ruler - sold separately. Additional solar panels, if needed, may be purchased.
Pitsco Solar Designer Car is a solar-powered car designed to travel under bright sunlight using the supplied parts and instructions. Other project ideas are suggested.
Kit contains the following: solar panel (.45 V, 400 mA) 1-3/4" x 2-15/16", DC motor, plastic body tube, Pitsco plastic gear font, two axles, four Pitsco wheels, four 1/8" brass washers, and instruction guide. Construction requires a drill with a 9/64" bit, a ruler and a hobby knife or sandpaper, sold separately.
Pitsco Solar Engineering Body Tubes are great for reusing your Solar Designer Kit. Plastic body tube is identical to the one in the Solar Designer Kit.
Pitsco Solar Oven is a great way to get students thinking of everyday applications for solar energy. Use this kit to demonstrate heat gain, heat loss and the second law of thermodynamics. Students can toast up s’mores, nachos and other small treats with the 13-1/4" x 10-1/2" x 6" oven.
Requires scissors or hobby knife, glue stick, and transparent tape - sold separately.
Caution: Oven might not get hot enough to safely cook products containing egg.
Pitsco Solar Vehicles Getting Started Package provides materials for 30 students to design, build and test their own solar cars, including six Ray Catcher Solar Panels that students share.
Pitsco Sunezoon Solar Car is an easy-to-assemble solar car that works outdoors in full sunlight or indoors under a bright incandescent light. Each kit contains instructions, solar panel with alligator clamps, motor, wheels, steel axles, gear font, chassis parts and a cut-and-fold cover. Construction requires scissors and a hobby knife or sandpaper, sold separately.
Pitsco Sunzoon Lite - Getting Started Package has enough materials for 30 students to build a SunZoon Lite solar car, plus it has the SunZoon Lite video.
Construction requires hobby knife, scissors, ruler, and optional hand-cutting tools and finish, sold separately.
Pitsco Sunzoon Lite Solar Car is a perfect kit for solar car beginners. Use the basswood chassis as is or use tools to shape it and then apply paint. The kit includes the chassis, a solar panel, Motor 280, gear font, front and back wheels, spacer material, adhesive tabs, and a template. No soldering required.
Construction requires hobby knife, scissors, ruler, and optional hand-cutting tools and finish, sold separately.
Pitsco Wind Energy - Getting Started Package motivates students to think about wind energy concepts through hands-on activity. The Getting Started package has enough materials for 25 student wind generators and has a WinDynamo III for teacher demonstrations or advanced student explorations.
Note: Requires a high-velocity table fan, sold separately.
Requires white glue, glue stick, scissors, screwdriver, and a fan - sold separately.
Wind energy has the potential to supply all the electricity needed in the United States. Introduce students to this renewable energy with the Wind Gen Plus Kit.
With this kit, students quickly build a windmill that catches a breeze from a fan and converts it into energy. Students see this energy when it lights a bulb attached to the motor. Or, they can wire several mills together to power larger devices such as a radio or a small motor.
Looking for standards-based activities to accompany these materials? The Wind Energy Teacher’s Guide is available for print here, or you can download a digital copy for free here.
