Pitsco Education Timber Cutter is a helpful tool for cutting 1/8" wooden sticks. Recommended for bridge and tower building as well as other model projects. The see-through safety guard limits finger access to the blade.

A single-edged razor blade provides a clean, accurate cut. Miter marks are molded into the base to use as a reference when making angle cuts. Five extra blades are included. Additional replacement blades sold separately.

Pitsco Education Timber Tester is best used for determining the best timbers to use for the most critical members of the bridge or tower, as well as the optimum way to orient the timbers to provide the maximum amount of load-bearing capacity for any structure. The unit is durable, with the main member of the unit constructed of rugged ABS plastic. The testing span is adjustable from 4 to 12 inches, and the scale provides readings from 0 to 7 units of load. We recommend one Timber Tester for every four to six “structural engineers.”

Use the Wing Cutter to make precision airfoil sections for model gliders and airplanes. You design the airfoil template, and the Wing Cutter does the rest! It’s simple. First, make a card-stock template using the airfoil design of your choice. Then, affix the template to the edge of the polystyrene foam material. Place the foam on the motorized platform and turn on the machine.

The motorized platform moves the foam block through the hot cutting wire. The wire glides atop the template, shaping the foam. The result is an impressive, smooth wing section. The wing sections make excellent glider wings and airplane wings. You can even join the sections together to make polyhedral wings. Wing sections can be up to 11-1/4" wide.

The Wing Cutter is made of a durable, laminated phenolic material. Wire temperature can be adjusted to accommodate various types of foam. Package includes Wing Cutter, control box, power supply, extra cutting wire, and instructions.

Extra cardboard tubes for bottle rocket bodies are available in five different lengths and diameters. Use with Pitsco Plastic Nose Cones and Spacer Rings. All tubes can be used in water (bottle) rockets and solid-fuel rockets. 

A target board best used with the Straw Rocket Launcher. Set up the board a distance away and have students aim their rockets at it. See who can land their rocket closest to the center of the target. It’s a great addition to all straw rocket lessons.

Discovering physical laws at secondary level

There is a whole range of physical laws inside this construction kit. STEM Simple Machines covers the topics on which the various tools and machines are based (rope and bar, lever, pulley, and inclined plane).
