    8 in. Pneumatic Wheel Kit

    Here is a high-traction wheel which includes a grippy rubber tire, an pneumatic inner tube, and a strong plastic hub. These parts are shipped to you in kit form. The unique aspect about this product is the competition-ready hub. The hub accepts any 200x50mm tire and inner tube, 1.125 in. (outside diameter) ball bearings (2 per wheel are needed), and the mounting holes needed to install hardware to be sprocket-driven or hub-driven. This wheel ships as a separate tire, inner tube, and hub halves.

    Assembly is required.



    Important Notes:

    • Diameter: The nominal diameter for this wheel is actually 7.65 in. when inflated normally.
    • Tube pinching: When assembling the tube within the two hub halves, be careful not to pinch the tube rubber between the plastic hub halves. If assembled with the tube pinched between the hub halves, the tube may puncture and leak.


    RPM Rating and notes:


    These wheels are designed to be propulsion wheels for driving a robot or wheel chair. The design intent is to be contacting the ground, being driven by a gearbox at a maximum speed of approximately 500 rpm (which results in 17 feet/sec).

    Within some applications, this wheel has been used as a shooter of objects, spinning at a very high rpm. For these applications, a higher rpm shows that the wheel may wobble, since the valve stem is mounted off to one side of the center of the wheel hub. We have seen properly balanced wheels, using securely mounted hardware (longer screws, washers) that can handle 5,000 rpm. When spinning this wheel at speeds up to 5,000 rpm, please take proper safety precautions.

    Wheel Structure:


    The hub halves are held together with the #4-40 screws. This wheel can accept #10-32 screws for mounting sprockets or hubs, but these are NOT included since different length screws are needed to mount hubs or sprockets. These #10 screws can be mounted to the included 1.875 inch diameter bolt circle. The hub halves need to be assembled together so that the valve stem clearance holes line up. Locating features are present for easy alignment.

    Usage:


    With Axle and Hub:

    • In order to drive this wheel with a hub, use Hardware Kit 11, which includes #10-32x2 screws (6) and #10-32 nylock nuts (6)

    With Sprocket:

    • In order to drive this wheel with a plate sprocket, use Hardware Kit 12, which includes a 550 Sprocket Spacer, #10-32x2.25 screws (6) and #10-32 nylock nuts (6).
    • Two (2) bearings are needed for this wheel, if being driven by a sprocket. Use bearings with a 1.125 inch outer diameter. No flange is needed on either of the bearings.

    Use as a caster:

    • If you want to let this wheel spin without being driven, you will need to install two (2) bearings with 1.125 inch outer diameter.

    Usage:

    • There are two ways to drive this wheel. One way is with a Axle and Hub, and the other is with a Sprocket. To install a sprocket or hub onto a Plaction wheel, use 10-32 x 1.75" socket head screw (qty. 3 or 6), and 10-32 nylock nuts. To use one sprocket on each side of a Plaction wheel (2 sprockets total) use 10-32 x 2.5" screws (3 or 6) and 10-32 nylock nuts. 


    With Axle and Hub:

    • If you wish to drive this wheel with an Axle and Hub, you can pick your hub by fitting any of the AndyMark hubs (except the Small DD Globe Hub) to this wheel. Hubs are NOT included in the price of the wheel. If this is your choice, then no bearing is needed.

     

    With Sprocket:

     

    If you wish to drive this wheel with a sprocket, then the sprocket needs to be attached to the side of the wheel, and two ball bearings need to be pressed into the wheel (one on each side). The smallest sprocket that will work with these wheels is a S35-24 tooth and a S25-36 tooth sprocket.

     

    With Bearing:

    • If your design needs this wheel to spin on a stationary axle (and possibly be driven by a sprocket), you will need 2 bearings with a 1.125" od pressed into this wheel. Use am-0029 for a 1/2" bore and am-0209 for a 3/8" bore. One bearing is pressed into each side of the wheel. Bearings are NOT included in the price of this wheel.

     

    With Tread:

    • This wheel is designed to capture 1" wide conveyor belt tread (Roughtop or Wedgetop) between 2 wheel halves. The 6 perimeter screws can be loosened by 1/8 inch to install the desired tread. We recommend using Alligator Clips to hold the tread together on the wheel. One 6" Wheel Wedgetop Tread is included in the price of the wheel.
    • For a Wider Wheel:
    • This wheel is designed so that a 5" PVC schedule 40 pipe can be inserted between the two wheel halves, and a wider wheel can be created (additional tread may be needed).

    We use these Clips to connect the tread on our Plaction wheels. You can use these clips to rebuild your damaged tread, or make your own lengths of tread for any wheels by getting 10' lengths of tread.

    We are proud to offer AndyMark's latest and greatest 6 in. diameter Mecanum wheel. This wheel's features are a culmination of our hard work in developing the Mecanum wheel since we introduced an affordable wheel to the market in 2006. This version was previously updated in the fall of 2017, and is an improvement on our previous HD (Heavy Duty) version. It has the same heavy duty features, but with an added smoothness while rolling. We minimized the gaps between the rollers, enabling this wheel to be our "smooth rolling" (SR) Mecanum Wheel.
