Wheels, Tires, & Rims
Compliant wheels are not intended for moving robots, but moving objects. Compliant wheels give way to allow rigid objects to be manipulated easily. A line of multiple wheels on a driven hex shaft creates a very effective roller that ignores variations in the objects being driven. This makes for high-performance intakes and internal conveyors. The wheels are sized for an interference fit and tend to stay in place on a shaft, though a shaft collar may be used to make absolutely sure the wheels stay clear of other mechanisms or maintain consistent spacing.
The hex bore versions of this wheel are undersized, and are intended to be an interference fit on their respective hex shafts. This interference fit allows for effective torque transfer from the hex shaft to the wheel, as well as allowing the wheel to remain in place along the shaft without the need for spacers or collar clamps:
Different durometer ratings give each wheel unique characteristics. Green wheels (35A durometer) are the softest and most compliant around objects, while orange (40A), maroon (45A), and blue (50A) wheels are increasingly firm. The increased firmness also allows the latter wheels to carry a higher RPM rating. Check out the downloads tab for a chart showing wheels and their maximum RPM.

Found most commonly on the front intake rollers of FIRST Robotics Competition robots, these 2.25 in. HD Mecanum Vectored Intake wheels are a perfect simple solution to serialize game pieces on the floor before they enter your robot. They also help extend the effective "width" of an intake to help draw game pieces in from the corners of your robot. They can also be used to help serialize game pieces within a conveyor system inside your robot and pair great with 2.25 in. Compliant Wheels. Made of high strength materials, these intake wheels are designed to be tough enough to withstand the rigors of FRC match play with rollers that are better retained for in high impact situations on the playing field.
The 2.25 in. HD Mecanum Vectored Intake Wheel comes as an unassembled kit of parts. Each order for these wheels will contain two 1/16 in. Allen Wrenches (am-4405) which are required for assembly. Because of the size of the hex socket on the fasteners, it is important to use sharp-ended fresh hex keys for assembly, and not ball-end drivers.
A traditional full set consists of 2 "right" wheels and 2 "left" wheels. The "right" and "left" refer to the direction the rollers are pointing when viewing the across it's rolling axis. If the roller in the middle of the wheel points up and to the right, it's a "right" wheel, and up and to the left would be a "left" wheel.
If using these as a drive wheel for a small robot platform, the configuration of these "right" and "left" wheels is important. Be aware that the "right" wheel does not mean that it goes on the right side of your robot. The proper configuration would be to have the wheels create an "X" pattern when viewing your robot from above and drawing lines parallel to the rollers as viewed. This means that a "right" wheel would be the FRONT RIGHT, and the REAR LEFT position, while the "left" wheel would be in the FRONT LEFT, and REAR RIGHT, of your robot when viewed from above. All 4 wheels are required to make a Mecanum drive holonomic system work properly.
Six nylon rollers spin smoothly on high strength steel axles, retained into 0.09" steel side plates. The steel plates geometrically interface with two interior polycarbonate hubs, which form the interior of the wheel. These steel plates rest against the flange on the injection molded hub, which increases the overall bending strength of each roller seat. The two injection molded polycarbonate interior hubs are held together by the tension in all six roller axles around the wheel, with steel roll pins pressed in around the hex bore to keep everything aligned.

Looking or a flat profile wheel with plenty of grip? Look no further than our six inch SmoothGrip wheels! Many are familiar with our flagship HiGrip wheels which feature an aggressive tread pattern great for biting hard into the ground. SmoothGrip wheels provide a strong level of traction with a longer life-span thanks to their smooth profile. They make great drive wheels on almost any surface as well as great flywheels to propel game pieces at high speed without damage. SmoothGrip wheels feature your favorite 1.125 in. bearing bore and 1.875 in. bolt circle, allowing you to mount a hub or bearing of your choice for live or dead axle setups.
Please note, due to the way these wheels are molded the outer profile may be tapered slightly to one side, this does not significantly affect performance as a drive wheel in most applications.

This pneumatic wheel offers a significant hub strength improvement over our popular plastic-hubbed 8in. Pneumatic Wheel. This variant of this strong wheel features a 1.125 Bearing Bore, which is a perfect choice for building a dead-axle style drivetrain, or for adding non-1/2 hex hubs for live axle configurations. The hub of the wheel is comprised of a machined aluminum core, with two flat machined plates bolted to it to retain the tube and tire. This product is great for both FRC drivetrain applications, or non-FIRST outdoor applications as well.
